A large source of inspiration for Eos Phos is the science of cymatics. This is the study of geometric shapes created by sound vibrations. The term was coined by Hans Jenny, when he demonstrated that when the surface of a plate, diaphragm, or membrane is vibrated with sound, geometric designs are made visible in a thin coating of particles, such as sand, paste, or liquid. Different patterns emerge depending on the tone or sound.
Just like cymatic shapes reflect a tone or a musical note, Eos Phos' designs are a physical expression of the artist's balanced thoughts and emotions. Every piece is created in a meditative state and drawn "freehand." No straight edges, rulers, or tools of any form are used while bringing each thought-form to life. The Eos Phos creative process includes only high-quality paper, inking utensils, and the artist's sharp eyes for each mandala.

CYMATICS INFO:
The Shri Yantra is an ancient symbol with many meanings. To Hindus, the geometric shapes represent the cosmos and the human body. This is interesting because it is also the cymatic expression made by the sound "OM". Many ancient traditions knew of the transmutation experiences of sound, thought and geometry. Similar geometric figures have been used to achieve balance of the mind and to obtain spiritual truths throughout time. In a cymatic sense, mandalas reveal the symbiotic relationship of wave energy and sound vibrations structured in geometric form and artistic expression.

SHRI YANTRA INFO:
For thousands of years, mandalas have aided in meditation and the creation of sacred spaces with the infusion of their radial balance and symmetry. "Mandala" is the generic term for most circular shaped designs, however Eos Phos mandalas could also be considered to be a "yantra". In Sanskrit, 'yantra' means machine or absorber of cosmic energy. Vedic scholars study their diverse mystical properties as they resonate with our solar system and act as a tuning fork that connects us to a universal consciousness.
Yantras represent the presence of the practitioner's focus of meditation through elaborate symbolic geometric expressions. Yantras have strong transformative benefits in many religious and philosophical traditions. For example, the depiction, concentration on, or wearing of a yantra can emit a balancing energy in any space with their symmetric qualities.

MANDALA INFO:
Eos Phos means "dawn light" when directly translated from Greek. Dawn's pure white light pierces the darkness and begins each new day to enlighten us all. Dawn is the time of day when darkness is no longer present and the Sun is not yet on the horizon. Thus, dawn teeters between extremes, in a netherworld time undefined as day or night. The time where the light magically bridges two opposite eras and becomes its own realm. Emergence of first light at dawn, and the rebirth of a new day is a universally recognized concept that spans all time and memory. Countless religions, philosophers, and civilizations have contemplated the brilliant light of each day's beginning and expressed their observance in our art, history, and culture. It is no wonder that our human fascination with the idea of the light piercing the darkness and giving life is the common thread that connects all things.
As humans, we use limitless influences as our filters for observing and interpreting art. Even with the varied ways we interpret art, we all share one thing, our love to find that peaceful feeling of buoyancy we get when we feel that we understand something for the first time. When this happens, we usually say something "dawned on me", to describe the moment. Thus, the concept of "dawn" can reach into every imaginable facet of how we interpret and express ourselves. This stream of thought branches into tributaries that lead to the universal search for truth and understanding, that we all hope to find. That search leads to an appreciation of knowledge accumulation in all areas of science, astronomy, medicine, history, metaphysics, mathematics, botany, human physiology and anatomy, and on and on.
Eos Phos explores the endless ways that we relate to art. The importance of contemplation of reality and absolute truth is the key to understanding. As we observe art we gain our own personal understanding and this gives us the feeling of fulfillment and harmony. 19th century philosopher, Hegel, saw history as the process in which consciousness comes to self-realization. Hegel pondered that, in art, cultural and individual human spirit is reflected in the true essence of expression. He appreciated the presence of history in the artistic process for the simple reason that if you understand from where you came you can better predict to where you might go.
